Cowboys, ranchers, farmers, and the families who work alongside them. Share stories, find each other, shop and sell, gather, learn, and get remembered.
Custom Cowboys is a hub for the families who carry this way of life forward. A place to share stories, find each other, sell goods and services, gather, learn, remember, and be remembered. The work feeds everyone. The least the rest of us can do is build a place that helps the people who do it.
The bunkhouse and the campfire. Where cowboys, ranchers, and their families tell about the work, the people, the places, and the days that mattered.
Regional chapters from every part of cattle country, East Texas first, then onward. Each region writes itself in its own voice, with its own people, its own truth.
The network of people who do this work and the families behind them. Find each other. Share help. The Roll Call of every cowboy ever named, working, retired, gone on.
The operations that keep this work alive. Working ranches and farms. Brands, families, history, daily life. The land and the animals that go with it.
Trail rides, brandings, fundraisers, dedications, book signings, ropings, and clinics. Where the work meets in person, and where you can show up.
Help wanted. Day work and apprenticeships. Equipment, livestock, horses, and land for sale or lease. The working marketplace of the network.
A reader-built reference of working ranching life. Words, methods, brands, sayings, and the way country people actually say it. Submitted by the people who live it. Coming soon.
The chuckwagon and the kitchen. Recipes, family life, ranch homes, the daily texture of how cowboys and their people actually live. Food, hearth, road.

The Custom Cowboy Memorial honors deceased custom cowboys of Houston County. A steel sculpture by FG Metalwork, dedicated May 2026 at the Porth Ag Arena. The first plaque carries five names. Families have come forward asking for more to be added. This website carries that purpose forward.
Books One and Two have been in print for years, drawn directly from the original handwritten journals of Houston County. Book Three (currently in progress) consolidates and expands the East Texas story, weaving in the documentary, the memorial, and the people who shaped it. Book Four opens the project to contributing voices from every region of cattle country.
All published through Langham Publishing and Wildwood Publishing. The imprints built around this work.
Explore the books →Director Curtis Craven discovered Book One online and reached out to CD. The years of filming that followed captured something that had never been on camera in this way before. The actual rhythm of a Custom Cowboy's working week, the horse trainers, the auction house, the long roads in between.
Aired on Texas PBS and KEDT.
